OneWalk to Conquer Cancer, benefitting the Alberta Cancer Foundation, made its inaugural debut in Calgary on June 25, 2016. Registered participants were able to select which cancer fund their fundraising dollars would support, including research that will improve outcomes and enhance care in the following areas:
- Clinical trials
- Prostate cancer
- Breast cancer
- Lung cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Head and Neck Cancer
- Enhanced care programs
Funds raised by OneWalk will also allow Alberta to be the first province to launch a province-wide screening program for lung cancer that will best determine who to screen and when. In addition, a new pilot program for breast cancer survivors in Alberta will provide the opportunity for patients to recover from mastectomies at home to improve quality of life. With nearly 500 participants, as well as the crew and volunteers, the Alberta OneWalk to Conquer Cancer raised $1 million dollars in 2016!
The next big fundraising event benefitting the Alberta Cancer Foundationwill be the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. An epic, two-day, 200km cycling event on August 6-7, 2016. The mission of the Ride “a cancer-free future”. With $7.8 million raised from over 1,700 riders in 2015 this year’s cyclists will look to continue this mission and supportresearch, cancer care and the discovery of new cancer therapies across multiple centres in Alberta including the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Cross Cancer Institute.
